Hello everyone! My name is Tim Fox, and It's been a heck of a life trip getting here. When I started gaming in the late 70s with BX D&D, I had no idea about 0e and I moved onto AD&D 1st ed which was the next big thing. Then I somehow stopped gaming in the early 80s, and played Steve Jackson Warlock of Firetop Mountain type books and Lone Wolf type books for a while. At the end of the 90s, I rediscovered gaming with a Vampire Larp group at college. Then I stopped gaming for many years, and suddenly I turned 50 a couple years back - and this coinciding with the virus - game me a lot of time alone to think and dream. I haunted drive thru rpg and various forums such as Basic Fantasy, odd74, Delving Deeper, Hideouts & Hoodlums, and Olde House Rules, as well as appearing in some Facebook groups. I offered game suggestions, and compiled house rules from internet sources, and overall developed a fascination with 0e and OSR type games. I've also joined play be post games. I amazed a too large collection of game PDFs, and printed out only a handful including Night Owl games. I currently tackling a personal project of making a replayable solo scenario for a new Olde House Rules game called Gaming Primitive. It is set in a low magic world, so my scenario tweaks it a little more to put it in the Stone Age. The process is slow, but here is where my blog starts: eruditegamingblog.blogspot.com/2022/03/gaming-primitive-rpg-planning-solo-game.htmlIt occurs to me Night Owl Workshop has not delved into a couple of genres yet. One is the Cthulhu type of game. Some are considering this genre problematic because of the dark tone of the subject and the extreme racism of the writer. ERB on the other hand would write something unacceptable in one paragraph, but in the next paragraph somehow write something very redeeming. The Tarzan books are still a good read is you read critically, but without some sort of literary sense - fail the test of time. The Mars books do much better, and often celebrate the multi-color races of the red planet cooperating and living together. If I had a wish for a new Night Owl game, I would love to see Night Owl's take on Stone & Sorcery complete with Archaic Humans, Neanderthals, and a few other off shoots that could have lived at the same time and listed here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HomoShamans, and Warriors might make up the two main classes. But, I digress ridiculously... Seriously.... It's great to be here. Would love to help out with this forum if you still need a Moderator. Word needs to get out about this site on Odd74 and other places. - Tim Fox

Hi Tim, Welcome to the board!
I like Stone & Sorcery as a genre, though it sorely temps me to add dinosaurs and megafauna.

Hello Night Owl, dinosaurs and megafauna are all good. Have two settings possible in a new stone & sorcery game - one with and with out dinosaurs and strange beasts. (Two types of random encounter tables!) Megafauna should rule in all of them of course!

Hi Night Owl,
I'd just like to say that I like your work and how you leverage the Original D&D Rules. I just purchased "Guardians" and "Warriors of the Red Planet" along with some of their supplements, and hope to have a good time playing them with my kids. We also have a long-running "Swords & Wizardry" campaign (Frog God Games/Matt Finch), and it's good to see supplements that can go along with that.
I have a few questions:
1) Are there any plans to make a horror RPG using the OD&D Rules as usual? I would envision something that would take a lot of inspiration from Bram Stoker's "Dracula" and Mary Shelly's "Frankenstein," probably some Sherlock Holmes elements, as well as drawing on inspiration from the classic horror movies of the 20th century: Wolf Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon, vintage alien flicks, etc. Maybe leave it open to give the gamers a choice of whether they would like a late nineteenth century/Victorian setting or a mid-20th century setting?
2) Do you accept any submissions for art? I'm not looking for money, I just think it would be cool to be a part of something like this if you liked my style. I like to use pencil and finish in pen and ink (so B&W). I'd be happy to take some requests of things you'd like drawn and give it a whirl.
3) What would you say are the main differences that distinguish the feel of the "Warriors of the Red Planet" RPG and the "Colonial Troopers" RPG? I have read "Pirates on Venus" by Burroughs and seen the "John Carter of Mars" movie, but I have never read "Starship Troopers" (saw part of the movie but am not basing things on that one). They are both obviously science fiction themes, I'm just trying to get a clear feel for the distinction between them.

We're just getting started, hoping we can bring this forum to life. 1) Are there any plans to make a horror RPG using the OD&D Rules as usual? As a fan of the original Dracula I have to make something in that genre someday. And I have a really good hook for one when I can find time to develop it. 2) Do you accept any submissions for art? I'm not looking for money Yes, and we pay. If you have an online portfolio or samples we can look at them. 3) What would you say are the main differences that distinguish the feel of the "Warriors of the Red Planet" RPG and the "Colonial Troopers" RPG? The easy answer is that Warriors of the Red Planet is more fantasy while Colonial Troopers is more hard science. In terms of gameplay WotRP is a lot of exploration of ancient ruins, battling monsters, rescuing princesses, etc. Colonial Troopers is military missions to eradicate bug infestations, fight piracy (or be a pirate), see and explore new planets. Powered armor. Both have a little bit of ship to ship combat.

Thanks, Night Owl, for the replies!
I have a few works that I could send you if you'd like (but I don't have an online portfolio). How shall I send them in?
Thanks!

New member here, first post. As a fan of Night Owl's stuff, I was delighted to find this forum.
A little about me: my introduction to RPGs was BECMI D&D, and the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks very shortly after. That led onto Runequest 3rd edition and Call of Cthulhu. Much later in life, I discovered and fell in love with Traveller.
I have limited opportunity to play RPGs at the moment, but I enjoy reading games and game products, and thinking about rules. The most recent gaming I did was to run a one-off session of CoC a couple of years ago. I am more active in minis wargaming, where we have a local club.
Looking forward to lots of interesting discussions here.

Order of Tharks on the way...

Hey all, I am a longtime gamer but new here. I like D&D and its many clones, 3rd party games, and settings.
I've done some freelance writing for various indie products over the years and just recently started sifting through Freebooters.
I figured I'd try my hand at writing up some famous (infamous?) pirates from the history books for use with Freebooters. I emailed Night Owl Workshop with some questions before I began and instead of answering, the publisher simply directed me here to these forums.
Please take a moment to view the thread I created called "Pirates of Legend" under the Freebooters section of these boards if you get a chance. Any advice would be appreciated. TIA!
