My initial reading of the gadget table made me think these gadgets are meant to roughly mirror Vancian casting until level 4, at which point they each takes two uses to expire for the day, and then again at 8th level, when they each take 3 uses to expire for the day. Under this interpretation, I would assume a 10th level scientist with an Int 13 or greater would have four 1st level gadgets, three 2nd level gadgets, two each of 3rd, 4th, and 5th level gadgets, and but a single 6th level gadget. And further, that these could be used thrice per day each.
This seems a bit unusual (that's an incredible high usage rate compared to the mentalist and sorcerer), and further it runs into a problem with the statement "The Scientist adds a new device to this suite each time he or she gains a level." (initially I thought this text was describing the table, but the gadget table increases by two, not one, at level 8, and by three, not one, at level 10). This interpretation would mean that the table refers to the number of charges you can put in gadgets of each level per day, not the number of total gadgets of each type. Further, this would mean that if, at level 4, you had constructed a Flame Thrower, a Personal Shield Generator, and an Interpreter Lens, as well as a personal Invisibility Generator and Weakening Beam, you could put a total of two charges into first level gadgets and a total of two charges into second level gadgets, such that you might decide to have two charges in your Flame Thrower, but none in your other two first level gadgets, whilst dividing your second level charges over the personal Invisibility Generator and the Weakening Beam.
No mechanic mentions that unused devices lose their charges overnight, though without that a scientist with downtime would eventually have every device with its maximum number of charges (in this example, ten usable charges total), so I'm a little unclear as to whether downtime is meant to allow the scientist a bunch of fully charged gadgets or not- the intention of the table and the nature of spell slots seems to indicate no, however.
So how far off base am I with my reading here?

Charges mirror Vancian spell casting. The charges listed are the number of charges the Scientist may use per day. That's it. No storing charges for the next day adding up to extra charges. This could perhaps be clarified in the text with some fiction tied to it like "charges deplete in 24 hours if not used" or something similar.
